The Infectious Disease Innovation Center (IDIC) Clinical Research Nurse supports the research nurse operations and activities associated with infectious disease clinical trials. The trials are conducted within a dedicated clinical trials unit at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. The research activities include, but are not limited to, the administration of FDA-regulated investigational products to trial participants and collection of clinical specimens, including blood from a peripheral blood draw or central venous access and nasal/throat swabs. This position performs as needed, medical procedures that require an RN clinical degree in medical practice.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement clinical trial activities with IDIC staff, study team, and investigators to ensure appropriate staffing levels and participant coordination for daily trial activities.
- Determine patient study eligibility, ensure informed consent, and monitor patient's clinical course
- Perform clinical procedures including blood draws, vital signs, drug administration, and specimen collection as outlined in the protocols
- Proficiency with placing peripheral IVs
- Proficiency with blood draws from a central venous catheter
- Act as a clinical liaison for protocols with clinical teams, patients, other institutions, and drug companies
- Educate clinical teams, ancillary departments, patients, and families about protocols to ensure safe and accurate implementation in compliance with protocol requirements
- Assist in maintaining IRB and FDA correspondence and regulatory documentation related to patient care and adverse events
- Assist in preparing continuation review reports, protocol modifications, and other study reports
- Maintain appropriate source documentation, and complete case report forms
- Compile and present status reports to PI, research team, sponsors, Consortium partners, regulatory bodies, nursing staff, and physicians as requested
- Identify, assess, and report adverse events in accordance with protocol and regulatory guidelines, and institutional policy
Qualifications
- BSN or BA/BS in related field
- Current, active Washington State Registered Nursing license
- Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical practice working with FDA-regulated investigational products research setting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in basic computer skills (EMR, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to work under pressure related to work/time deadlines
