The Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a motivated Staff Research Associate. Our research focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which the autonomic nervous system initiates and sustains arrhythmias, with a particular interest in the role of the cardiac nervous system in heart disease. Our team collects electrophysiological and neural data from both human subjects and animal models of cardiovascular disease. In our human studies, we gather data from cardiac electrophysiologic recordings using an array of electrodes and catheters, along with neural recordings. In our animal models, we perform surgical dissections, record hemodynamic and electrical activities, and analyze tissue for chemical and protein content. In addition supporting research effort you will also manage laboratory operations, including overseeing supplies, reagents, and equipment, ensuring compliance with inspections, and coordinating with other departments within the College of Medicine.
Hourly range: $28.88-$46.46
Qualifications
Required:
Skills to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner
Demonstrated ability to work well with others
Ability to work on routine assignments with minimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records
Skills in preparing buffers, solutions and reagents
Skills in basic computer use, Microsoft excel, office, powerpoint
Preferred:
BS degree in biochemistry, physiology, biology or equivalent
Skills in animal handling and surgical procedures
Skill to perform surgical procedures in a lab setting on animals
