Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist is accountable for maintaining the integrity of the legal medical record through assuring compliance with System, State, Federal and Regulatory requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, corrections, auditing, examining, and reporting.
Certified Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
WORK MODEL
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:00a - 5:00p (32 hours a week/64 hours a pay period)
Hiring leader is open to full-time (32 hours a week) or part-time opportunity (20 hours a week) for HIM experienced candidates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Monitors and assigns medical record deficiencies to appropriate provider for completion, completes medical record suspension, and monitors chart completion for coding.
Assists HIM Director with departmental oversight, monitoring of staff productivity, quality, and performance by collecting data and providing findings to HIM Director, serves as operational team lead, new staff training, provides coverage for vacancies and staff time off and as a resource for HIM related technology.
Performs medical record reviews to screen and examine documentation against regulatory standards, policies, rules and regulations. Aggregates data, reports, monitors for trends and develops improvement plans in collaboration with HIM Director.
Researches, troubleshoots and resolves documentation issues on accounts to ensure completeness of documentation as outlined in the internal policy.
Assists physicians with medical record completion and provides education including information technology and documentation requirements.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Certified Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
Proficient computer and work processing skills.
Exceptional critical thinking skills.
Ability to review errors and problem solve.
Proven customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively with a variety of customers; to include physician, nurses, and patients.
