Role Purpose
Performs specimen processing of human biological material for specialized high complexity molecular testing which requires a knowledge and understanding of basic molecular techniques, quality control, instrument maintenance, and procedure methodologies. Maintains appropriate documentation of all activities as required. Demonstrates good laboratory practice
Responsibilities
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on complex and sensitive molecular equipment with an emphasis on clean technique. Operates complex molecular instrumentation for the purposes of patient testing, calibration, and validation of the quality of the assay. Delivers precise, timely, and accurate laboratory results. Has the ability to identify technical and or equipment malfunctions including quality control and abnormal patient results.
Adheres to strict quality assurance practices in order to maintain the highly sensitive environment required for molecular testing techniques. Prepares stock solutions and reagents following standard operating procedures and quality control procedures. Conducts quality control testing of solutions and reagents and records results accordingly.
Participates in performance improvement activities and new assay validations--both FDA approved assays and Laboratory Developed Tests.
Provides training for new laboratory personnel in methods, procedures and use of equipment and instruments specific to the assigned area. Communicates with nurses, clinicians, residents, and fellows as it relates to in-house and send-out testing practices. Clarifies testing questions including specimen type, stability, performing laboratory, and methodology.
Ensures testing is ordered and billed correctly. Maintains records for batch testing to include patient information, controls, quality indicators, lot numbers, and details on any manual sample manipulation conducted. Provides laboratory testing services for a robust oncology program along with transplant and genetics programs. Manages the primary data analysis and interpretation of analytically complex oncology patients and quality control test results. Records results through the laboratory computer system accurately and in a timely fashion.
