Department Chair for Occupational and Environmental Health
The Ideal Candidate We are seeking a dynamic and accomplished individual to serve as Chair of Occupational and Environmental Health. The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in the field with a reputation for research excellence and superior teaching. They will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our department, attracting and nurturing talented individuals who will become tomorrow's educators and leaders in occupational and environmental health.
Whether a seasoned scholar, or multidisciplinary environmental health practitioner, this position will have the freedom and support to expand the Department's research portfolio and teaching mission, which will include the addition of new faculty lines. The ideal candidate meets the required qualifications as an Associate or Full Professor, has a documented track record of external funding, and will strategically lead the Department with greater emphasis on emerging issues at the intersection of health and the environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide visionary leadership for the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, overseeing its academic and administrative activities.
Maintain a thriving and collegial work environment for faculty, staff and students.
Foster a culture of excellence in research, teaching, and service within the department.
Attract, mentor, and develop faculty members who demonstrate potential for outstanding contributions to the field.
Develop and implement a comprehensive mentoring program for young faculty members and students, fostering their professional growth and success.
Promote interdisciplinary collaborations and initiatives both within the department, across the college and health sciences campus, and with public health professionals, agencies and associations in the state, region, and nationally.
Enhance the department's national and international reputation through innovative research and scholarly activities.
Advocate for resources and support to advance the department's mission and goals.
Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, communities, and professional organizations, to promote the department's work and impact.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a relevant field. (e.g., environmental health, environmental science, environmental management, environmental sustainability, environmental policy, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and human factors engineering, or related fields).
Academic rank of Associate or Full Professor with proven leadership experience preferably in a departmental chair or other administrative role. Similar experience from industry or governmental roles may be considered as equivalent to traditional academic rank and position.
Strong record of innovative research, publication, and grant funding.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a varied team of faculty and staff with an appetite for innovation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
