Role Overview Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Bradley Britigan, the Chair of the Department of Dermatology will provide strategic and administrative leadership to guide the department’s growth and ensure excellence across clinical care, education, and research. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape the department’s vision, strengthen programs, and address the challenges of a dynamic healthcare environment.
The Chair will focus on several key strategic priorities to advance the department:
Faculty retention and continued recruitment in key programmatic areas.
Educational Mission: Launch new fellowship programs (Moh’s surgery and pediatric dermatology) and explore innovative ways to expand academic offerings.
Clinical Growth: Lead the development of a state-of-the-art clinical space and expand teledermatology services to increase statewide access.
Research Expansion: Recruit faculty aligned with institutional research priorities and leverage existing infrastructure to enhance research output.
Community Partnerships: Build trust with community dermatologists and foster collaborative partnerships within UNMC.

The Department:
Established in 2016 under Founding Chair Dr. Ashley Wysong, the Department of Dermatology has grown into a multidisciplinary hub of clinical, educational, research, and outreach excellence.
Highlights include:
Recruitment of 20 board-certified dermatologists since inception; the department now has 16 faculty members.
Launch of a dermatology residency program in 2019, now with 12 residents.
Robust clinical operations spanning four Nebraska Medicine locations, Children's Nebraska, and the VA Hospital, with plans for a $38M clinical space to break ground in 2025.
Specialized clinics, such as Autoimmune Bullous Diseases, Ethnic Skin, and Transplant Dermatology.
Education and Research The ACGME-accredited residency program began in 2020, followed by a fellowship in Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology launching in 2025. Future plans include a Pediatric Dermatology fellowship (anticipated in 2025). Research areas include skin cancer, autoimmune skin diseases, infectious dermatology, and emerging fields like the skin microbiome and organoid programs, with extensive opportunities for collaboration in oncology and transplant dermatology.

The ideal candidate will hold an MD, DO, or equivalent degree, have completed an accredited dermatology residency (and fellowship, if applicable), and be board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology. Eligibility for or possession of an unrestricted medical license in Nebraska is required, along with academic credentials qualifying for an Associate Professor or, preferably, Professor-level appointment.
Candidates should bring progressive leadership experience in academic medical centers or medical schools, a proven record of high-impact scholarly contributions, and evidence of current or prior research funding (e.g., NIH or other agencies). Success in fostering collaboration, mentoring, and program development is critical. Additionally, involvement in leadership roles within professional organizations at the local, state, or national level is expected.
