Works in collaboration with the Nursing Department Managers and Supervisors to identify educational needs of the patient population in CSR Women?s Services and CSR Children?s Hospital in the specialty area regarding lactation as well as educational needs of the staff, to develop programs to meet these needs, and evaluate outcomes. Supports and promotes breastfeeding of infants, provides consultation for mothers experiencing difficulties with breastfeeding. In addition to direct patient and family education, orients new hospital staff, trains and serves as a mentor to staff regarding lactation.
Responsibilities:
Identify educational needs of breastfeeding mothers who are inpatients in the mother baby unit or have infants that are patients in the children?s hospital.
Provides direct instruction and consultation in breastfeeding and breast health to the targeted population.
Provides consultation services by phone or by appointment as needed. Organizes, directs, and conducts educational programs for staff and patients in the area of lactation (E).
Evaluates effectiveness of staff developments programs in relation to program goals/objectives as well as the effectiveness of the lactation education to patients (E).
Utilizes clinical and staff development expertise to provide expert consultation to other units and their patients in the area of lactation. (M)
Researches and directs development of standards of care for lactation support and promotion.
Demonstrates competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the age specific and developmental needs of clients.
Appropriately adapts assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical psychosocial cultural spiritual age specific and other developmental needs of clients served.
Shares expertise with educational resources and the nurse managers in planning, implanting and evaluating CSRHC wide educational programs.
Serves as a resource for staff developing educational programs and resources.
Demonstrate adherence to the core values of CHRISTUS Health.

Requirements:
Education
Minimum associate degree in nursing and Lactation experience and expertise.
Experience:
3 years of experience in breastfeeding education
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications
RN license and Lactation Consultant Certification.
