Under the direction of the Facilities Management leadership, the HVAC Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems across UCLA Health facilities. The incumbent ensures environmental conditions meet patient care, research, and administrative needs while maintaining compliance with regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards. Duties include operating and maintaining central plant systems, performing inspections, responding to service calls, and documenting all work in accordance with departmental procedures.
Salary Rate: $52.26/hour
Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an operating engineer, HVAC mechanic, or stationary engineer.
Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems associated with HVACR equipment.
Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a service-oriented approach.
Experience working in a healthcare, hospital, or research laboratory environment.
Familiarity with Siemens, Johnson Controls, or similar building automation systems.
Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.
