The Research Lab Support Tech performs technical laboratory support services required by the department or specific protocols. This position will upkeep research kit inventories and associated documents; clean laboratory space and laboratory equipment; maintain and distribute inventory of lab supplies; prepare research laboratory kits for sample collection; complete research lab processing, storing, and shipping. This position also helps with lab moves and reorganizations as needed, troubleshoots problems and oversees and implements safety programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Performs research support services requested including: cleaning laboratory space and lab equipment, maintaining supply and kit inventories, equipment maintenance and calibration records, cleaning and decontaminating research areas.
Troubleshoots problems and follows standard operation procedures (SOPs) to handle problems, such as equipment failures, sample shipping logistics; Contacts appropriate services for assistance, and documents and reports appropriately to supervisor or service provider.
Monitors facility for safety, environmental or physical problems and takes necessary action to report and/or resolve problem working with building management orders and maintains appropriate inventory of lab supplies.
Orders, distributes supplies and maintains appropriate inventory of lab supplies and research kits.
Ensures correct disposal of laboratory waste per regulatory agencies and department safety protocols.
Maintains required documentation of work performed as instructed by supervisor or SOP. Helps develop SOPS.
Plans and assists laboratory or administrative staff with special projects as needed, such as relocating equipment, setting up for special events, preparing shipments, etc.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of operation of basic laboratory equipment.
Knowledge of chemical, biological and radiation safety.
Knowledge of animal husbandry and handling procedures a plus.
Ability to use computer systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Office systems a must.
