Lead a Department Advancing Pharmacy Practice, Education, and Scholarship.
The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy invites applications for an experienced, collaborative, and strategic academic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice. This is an opportunity to lead a high-impact department that engages faculty, learners, and practice partners across Lawrence, Kansas City, and Wichita. The next Chair will help shape the future of pharmacy practice education, clinical innovation, scholarship, and community engagement across Kansas and beyond.
This position is available as either a tenured faculty position (Associate/Full Professor) or an unclassified academic staff appointment (Associate/Full Clinical Professor).
The Chair will provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for a multi-campus department spanning Lawrence, Kansas City, and Wichita, committed to advancing excellence in teaching, research, and clinical practice. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, staff, students, school leadership, clinical partners, alumni, and community stakeholders to strengthen the department's educational mission, expand scholarly and clinical impact, and support a culture of excellence, collaboration, and connectedness.
This role is well-suited for a leader who can mentor and develop faculty, build partnerships across academic and health care settings, and advance a shared vision for the evolving role of pharmacists in patient care, population health, interprofessional education, and practice-based research.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and administration of the department
Foster a collegial and high-performing academic environment.
Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate faculty and staff across campuses
Support excellence in Pharm.D. education, experiential learning, and student mentoring.
Strengthen research, clinical, interprofessional, and community partnerships
Promote scholarship, innovation, and professional leadership among faculty.
Oversee budgeting, planning, and resource management
Contribute to teaching and mentoring in the Pharm.D. program
Maintain an active portfolio of scholarship and service.
Required Qualifications
PharmD (or equivalent terminal degree) from an accredited program
Eligible for appointment at Associate or Full Professor rank or Associate Clinical or Full Clinical Professor rank
Kansas pharmacy licensure (or eligible within 6 months)
Strong record of teaching, research/scholarship, and service
Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to build partnerships
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Documented leadership experience in developing and enhancing relationships with community partners
Additional for Clinical Track
Minimum 3-6 years of pharmacy practice experience (based on rank).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a department chair
Expertise in budget management in an academic setting
Experience managing teams across multiple locations
Leadership in complex or unionized academic environments
